Which is why LinkedIn is our focus for the full month of June. We’ll take a look at LinkedIn’s latest features, explore its lesser known tools, and examine tips from its some of its savvier users.

But first, here’s some quick and dirty tips to get the most from two of LinkedIn’s most popular tools—updates and long posts.

Updates:

  • Post every weekday, in the morning
  • Share curated content relevant to your target audience, and always include your own comment/insight in the update
  • For every update you post, engage with five other posts in your feed
  • Keep your update posts to 16-25 words long
  • Share a little personality too … this is about connections after all, so don’t fall into the stiff, non-personal “professionalism” trap

Long posts:

  • Use the 5W’s in your title (plus “how”), and personalize to your audience with “you/yours”
  • Select topics that are relevant to your expertise and target audience
  • Post about once a week for optimal results
  • Share lessons from your failures, successes, inspirations, heroes, experiences and more
  • Keep posts to 400-600 words

LinkedIn is a valuable tool, with a ton of networking potential to grow your business and develop a thought leadership platform … and it’s been evolving significantly the last few years.

These quick tips for updates and long posts will help you start to boost your presence right away—I’ve been following them myself the last few weeks, and I’m already seeing some increased activity.
